Designing gift boxes and bags for Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is when customers buy gifts for elders and business partners, so packaging strongly influences what they choose. This article covers colour, symbols and production planning so your festive packaging is ready on time and still recognisably yours.

Use festive colours without losing your brand colours
Red and gold stand for luck and wealth, but if every brand uses the same red and gold, products blur together on the shelf. Try using red as an accent, such as a ribbon, seal sticker or band, while keeping your main brand colours so customers still recognise your product.
Pick symbols whose meaning fits the product
Mandarins mean good fortune, fish mean abundance and plum blossoms mean resilience and fresh starts. Choose symbols linked to your product or the wish you want to send, and draw them in your own brand style rather than using stock images that other shops also use.
Design packaging people keep after the festival
A box sturdy and attractive enough to reuse for storage keeps your brand in customers' homes long after the holiday. Consider magnetic lids, fabric bags or reusable tins, and place the logo so it still looks good without the festive message.
Plan production at least three months ahead
Printers are very busy before Chinese New Year, so finalise designs and order samples early, allowing time for colour corrections and special finishes. The HUANGJUI Design team creates festive packaging that uses auspicious symbols correctly and prepares print-ready files so production finishes on time.
