Business naming

Check a business name before using it: duplicates, domains and social handles

Before printing business cards or registering a company, check that the name is not already taken, the domain is free and social handles are available. This checklist helps you avoid renaming later.

Check official records and the real market

For Thai companies, names can be checked and reserved through the Department of Business Development system. Also search the name on Google Maps and online marketplaces, because a name that can be registered may still be close to a shop customers already know in the same area.

Keep the domain and social handles aligned

Look for a .com or .co.th domain and matching handles on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and LINE OA. If the main name is taken, you can add a word for the business type or city, such as design or bkk, but use the same pattern on every channel so customers can find you easily.

Keep records and plan for a trademark

Once you choose a name, note the date you started using it and keep the first logo files. If the business plans to grow or sell its own products, ask an intellectual property professional about filing a trademark, which protects the name and logo far more than company registration alone.
