Popular plants and their meanings
Plants popular with shops include lucky bamboo, symbolising growth; the ZZ plant, believed to attract wealth; and the arrowhead vine known in Thai as 'money flowing in'. Plants with round, thick leaves are often preferred to pointed ones, because round leaves are believed to symbolise money and smoothness.
Suitable positions
Believers often place plants near the entrance to welcome good energy, or in the inner corner diagonally opposite the door, seen as the wealth corner, but they must not block walkways or the shop sign. Check the real light in that spot first, since a plant placed where it gets no light declines quickly.
Keeping plants healthy matters more than the species
In Feng Shui, dry, wilting or yellowing plants are considered inauspicious. Keep only as many as you can look after, set a watering schedule and remove damaged leaves regularly. A shop with a few fresh plants feels better than one with many neglected plants, both for its energy and in customers' eyes.
