Lucky directions by element: choosing how your shop and desk face
In Chinese metaphysics, each element relates to a different direction, so owners often use their personal element to guide which way a shop or desk faces. This article explains the basics and what to do when you cannot choose the direction.

The five elements and their directions
In traditional thought, wood belongs to the east, fire to the south, metal to the west, water to the north and earth to the centre and certain diagonal directions. The direction of an element that supports the owner is often considered good for facing while working or receiving customers.
First learn which element supports you
Your birth element is not always the one you need to strengthen; some people's own element is already strong, and they benefit from another. A Bazi reading shows which element is favourable before you use it to choose a direction or shop colours.
When you cannot change the building's direction
Most shops rent spaces with fixed orientation. What you can adjust is the direction of the counter, the owner's desk and where you sit with customers. If none can face a good direction, add colours or materials of the right element in the decor instead.
Put practical comfort first
A desk facing a lucky direction but with its back to the door, or glare in your eyes, can make work uncomfortable. Look for a spot that sees the entrance, has a wall behind it and faces a supportive direction as far as possible. The HUANGJUI Design team can analyse directions and elements and recommend practical layouts.
